Sian Stacey

Director and former warden
Bardsey Island/Ynys Enlli

Sian Stacey first visited Bardsey Island/Ynys Enlli when she was a child, later returning as a volunteer and eventually becoming the island’s warden. These days, she’s the Chief Officer of the Bardsey Island Trust, dedicating her time to protecting the island’s unique environment, wildlife and community for future generations.

“I’m very lucky to work in a job that feels like a vocation rather than a career in many ways.”

Sian’s work is all-encompassing, and has ranged from overseeing rainwater preservation and installing renewable energy sources to building compost toilets. She is also regularly engaging with locals on how best to protect and preserve the environment both on and around the island.

“I love the people-side of things. In conservation, I think there can be an arrogance that we know best, and that isn’t always the case. I enjoy working with people, listening and bringing different viewpoints together.”

Sian takes great pride in the work she does, and feels very lucky to be responsible for overseeing the future of Bardsey Island/Ynys Enlli.
