Matthew Beckwith

Apprentice solar panel installer
Future EV, Durham

After finishing an electrical installation course at college, Matthew Beckwith started an apprenticeship at Future EV. Initially pursuing a career as an electrician, he soon found his way into the world of solar.

With every installation, Matthew puts a household in a position to generate its own clean power and spend less on energy. It’s work that combines practical skills with a growing demand for renewables, and he’s already seen that demand first-hand.

“It’s a case of getting around, seeing different parts of the country and helping people get their electricity bills down! The thing I love about my job is just helping people save money.”

He’s also confident about where the job could take him and sees a long career ahead in the industry - not just because of the growing demand for solar, but also the physical, hands-on nature of the job.

“I think the solar industry is only going to get bigger and bigger.”

“A lot of jobs are under threat but I would say my job is secure. AI can’t install systems like we do.”
