Florence Peyton-Jones
Aquaculture Asset Advisor
The Crown Estate
After studying Marine Biology at university, Florence Peyton-Jones decided to explore all avenues in the marine industry, from commercial diving and teaching sailing to underwater filming and boatbuilding.
“After university, it’s really hard to know what it is you want to do! The marine industry is so broad, so I just tried lots of different things.”
After securing an internship funded by The Crown Estate and hosted by the Wildlife Trust, Florence became involved in the world of Aquaculture. In her role at The Crown Estate, she’s responsible for managing the seabed and coastline across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, with an emphasis on the shellfish and seaweed industries.
“I do a lot of work looking at what regenerative marine aquaculture can do for the environment. Shellfish and seaweed can improve water quality, and both create habitat for other wildlife. I’m facilitating that industry to grow.”
Florence is excited by the future of the industry, seeing opportunities to expand sustainable industries, while dedicated to the important work of protecting, enhancing and restoring the marine environment.
